Special Agents of the Arkansas State Police Criminal Investigation Division worked through Thursday night and this morning gathering statements and evidence connected with a shooting incident that erupted as Helena – West Helena Police Officers attempted to execute a residential search warrant.
At approximately 5:18 PM on Thursday (February 13th) officers arrived at 612 and 614 West Cleburne Street in Helena where they were met with gunfire.
During the exchange of gunfire, Matthew Jarrett, a Helena officer was wounded and transported to a Memphis hospital where he has been reported to be in stable condition.
David and Charlie Randle, two men at the location where the search warrant was being executed, were wounded during the shooting.
David Randle was treated and released, while Charlie Randle remains hospitalized at Memphis in critical condition.
Upon completion of the investigation by State Police Special Agents, the investigative file will be submitted to the Phillips County Prosecuting Attorney to determine whether use of deadly force by the Helena Police Officers was consistent with Arkansas laws and whether criminal charges should be filed against the individuals who fired on police.
